2025-2026 Chapter Highlights

Stroll Like An Alpha

This is a widespread program across College Chapters where female students sign up, rehearse several times under Brothers who act as coaches, and perform in a three-round step and stroll competition. This year, the Chapter was able to bring this fun event to Hopkins, hosting more than 100 guests in the brand new Bloomberg Student Center in December 2025.

World AIDS Day Celebration

Maintaining our commitment to Project Alpha, the Chapter hosted our Annual World AIDS Day Celebration in collaboration with the Rho Omega Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. and the Diverse Sexuality & Gender Alliance. This year we expanded our collaboration on this legacy program to include the talents of HBCU Soul, a community-based coalition of alumni and community health workers dedicated to HIV/AIDS awareness, prevention, and treatment. The event featured powerful speakers representing several institutions and community organizations, and meaningful conversation that broadened participants’ and guests’ understanding of how HIV spreads. Educational content of the evening focused on current advancements in medicine that aim to end the HIV epidemic in our most vulnerable communities.

Women’s Appreciation Dinner

In collaboration with our Miss Black & Gold Royal Court in March, this legacy program allows us to recognize the work and contributions of outstanding women and student organizations across the University. We also engaged with spreading awareness about the importance of HIV prevention and health disparities in LGBTQIA+ communities. This year, Ms. Malia Grant, Ms. Arielle Clayton, Ms. Christie Owiye, M.A., and the Diverse Sexuality & Gender Alliance (DSAGA) were this year’s honorees. Look back at the night’s presentation here.

The Miss Black & Gold Scholarship Pageant

Over the academic year, our inaugural 2025-2026 Miss Black & Gold Royal Court represented, supported, and helped grow the Sigma Sigma Chapter with pride and distinction. They raised money to support relief efforts in Cuba, represented the Chapter at the District Competition for the first time ever, shared experiences and insights about the costs and strategies of campus leadership with students, spread awareness about maternal health and postpartum care services, and developed relationships with Brothers and other Queens across our District. We are incredibly proud of the work of our 2025-2026 Court and look forward to all they will continue to accomplish on campus and in their professional and personal endeavors.

In April, the Chapter hosted the 2026-2027 Miss Black & Gold Scholarship Pageant at Johns Hopkins University. Omotara Tiamiyu, a senior majoring in Public Health Studies hailing from Atlanta, Georgia, was crowned Miss Black & Gold. She earned a $1,000 scholarship towards her studies and will represent the Chapter at the Mid-Atlantic Association of Alpha Phi Alpha Chapters’ District Conference in November. We are incredibly proud of our 2026-2027 Royal Court and are excited for how they will support their platforms addressing substance abuse and equitable health access in Baltimore City and beyond.
